Decks and balconies
Deck Waterproofing Auckland
Deck membrane systems for decks, balconies and outdoor areas.
We install membrane systems for decks, balconies and outdoor areas on homes and commercial properties across Auckland. A deck over a living space is a roof you walk on, so the membrane has to be right at every edge, upstand and outlet.
- New decks and balconies, and re-membraning failed ones
- Detailed at thresholds, wall junctions, edges and outlets
- PS3 documentation where required, 10-year workmanship warranty
Where decks leak
The membrane is only as good as its edges
Decks rarely leak through the middle. Water gets in where the membrane stops or turns: the upstand at the door threshold, the junction with the wall cladding, the edge trim, the outlet or scupper, and anywhere a balustrade post or fixing goes through. Correct waterproofing at those points is what prevents moisture damage, leaks and rot beneath the deck surface.
Our deck membrane systems are selected to suit the substrate, the design and the project requirements, with careful attention to junctions, penetrations and drainage points. On an existing deck that is already leaking, we start with the same diagnosis as our waterproofing repairs, so you know whether a repair will do or the deck needs a new membrane.
How it goes together
What's included in a deck membrane
- Choosing a system that suits the substrate, the exposure and the finish going on top
- Checking and preparing the substrate before anything is applied
- Installing the membrane, including upstands, edges, outlets and penetrations
- Warranty documentation, and a PS3 where the project requires one
The finish needs to be decided before the membrane is chosen. Tiles, timber and trafficable coatings each suit different systems. Some manufacturers back their systems as well: Viking Roofspec, for example, offers a Full System Warranty with its own inspection and sign-off. For complicated decks with lots of posts and penetrations, a seamless liquid membrane is often worth considering.

FAQs
Deck waterproofing questions
Can you waterproof an existing deck that is leaking?
Yes. We assess the existing membrane and substrate first. If the fault is local we can repair it. If the membrane has failed, a new membrane system is the better option and we will quote for that.
Can tiles go over the membrane?
Yes, many deck membranes are designed to sit under tiles or a raised timber deck. The finish needs to be decided before the system is chosen, because it affects which membrane is suitable.
Do you provide a PS3 for deck waterproofing?
Where the project requires one, yes. The PS3 confirms the membrane was installed in line with the specified system.
Do you work on new builds?
Yes. We work on new builds and construction projects as well as existing homes, for residential and commercial properties.
