Liquid membranes
Liquid Membrane Waterproofing Auckland
Seamless liquid waterproofing for roofs, decks, balconies and complex surfaces.
Liquid-applied membranes form a seamless waterproof barrier that can be applied around detailed areas, penetrations and irregular surfaces where sheet membranes may not be suitable. We install them on homes and commercial properties across Auckland.
- No laps or seams to fail
- Suits awkward details, penetrations and changes of level
- Trained applicators for ARDEX, MAPEI and Sika systems
When liquid is the better choice
One continuous coat, no joins
A sheet membrane is cut, lapped and joined. That works well on a simple open area. On a surface broken up by pipes, posts, outlets, plant and changes of level, every cut is another lap to seal. A liquid membrane is applied as a continuous coat, so it follows those details without a join. Sika's guide to liquid applied roof membranes sets out why they suit roofs with lots of details and penetrations, and refurbishment work.
It is not always the right answer. A liquid membrane depends on the surface it goes onto, so a wet, weak or contaminated substrate has to be dealt with first, and on a large plain roof a sheet membrane roof may be the simpler option. We will tell you which suits the job.
What we do
Our liquid waterproofing services
Versatile application
Liquid-applied membranes suit roofs, decks, balconies, gutters and complex areas where a seamless system is needed, with detailed application around penetrations, junctions and irregular surfaces.
Surface preparation
Proper preparation is essential for liquid membrane performance. We assess and prepare the substrate first, addressing joints, penetrations and surface details for strong adhesion.
Proven coatings
Liquid membrane systems selected to suit the substrate, the exposure and the requirements of each project, for a seamless and durable barrier against water.
Careful installation
Consistent membrane coverage and careful detailing around edges, junctions, penetrations and drainage points, applied to the system's specified thickness.
Where we use it
Roofs, decks, balconies and gutters
Liquid membranes are a good fit for balcony and deck waterproofing with lots of posts and fixings, for gutters and parapets, and for roofs crowded with vents and plant. The same kind of product, as an undertile membrane, is also how showers and wet areas are waterproofed; see our bathroom waterproofing page.

FAQs
Liquid membrane questions
Can a liquid membrane go over my existing roof or deck?
Sometimes. It depends on what is there now and what condition it is in. We assess the existing surface against the manufacturer's requirements before recommending it.
Can you walk on a liquid membrane?
Some systems are trafficable and some need a finish over the top. We specify the system to suit how the area will be used.
Is liquid membrane waterproofing good value?
The cost depends mainly on the area, the preparation and the number of details. On a surface with many penetrations, a liquid system avoids the time spent cutting and sealing sheet laps. We give you a free quote once we have seen the job.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Our workmanship is backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty, and manufacturer system warranties apply where an approved system is specified and installed to the manufacturer's requirements.
